How would you describe the National Urban Fellows program?
The National Urban Fellows (NUF) program is an intensive, 14-month leadership development experience that blends academic rigor with hands-on professional impact. It’s designed for mid-career professionals who are committed to advancing social equity and systemic change. As a fellow, I’m pursuing a Master of Policy Management at Georgetown University while simultaneously completing a full-time leadership residency with Seeding Success.
What makes NUF unique is its emphasis on social justice, public policy, and leadership. The program challenges us to think critically about equity, power structures, and how we can drive change within complex systems. Through coursework in racial justice, public policy decision-making, and strategic leadership, we’re equipped to navigate and influence policy landscapes. At the same time, our residency placements allow us to apply these lessons in real time, making a tangible impact in organizations dedicated to serving communities.
How did you get into this kind of work?
My passion for this work began at 17 when I founded Suit Up!, an initiative supporting homeless youth in Atlanta by equipping them with career readiness skills. That early experience in advocacy led me to Capitol Hill, where I saw firsthand how policy could shape opportunities for marginalized communities. From there, my journey took me through Teach for America, where I used innovative strategies to drive student success, and later to Braven, where I focused on improving career access for underrepresented students.
Through these experiences, I saw the systemic barriers across multiple sectors that keep communities from thriving. That’s what led me to the National Urban Fellows program and my residency with Seeding Success. Here, I’m working to bridge policy and practice, ensuring that community voices are centered in decision-making and that cross-sector collaboration drives sustainable change. My ultimate goal is to use policy and education to create more inclusive opportunities, especially for students of color, so that every child has the resources and support they need to succeed.
What motivates you on a daily basis?
What motivates me daily is the unwavering belief that equitable opportunities can transform lives and communities. I’ve seen firsthand how systemic barriers, whether in education, economic mobility, or public policy, can limit people’s potential. But I’ve also seen how intentional leadership, advocacy, and collaboration can drive meaningful change.
On a personal level, I find purpose in connecting people, breaking down silos, and ensuring that those most impacted by policy decisions have a seat at the table. I know that the work I do today through policy, program strategy, and community engagement can create a better future for the next generation, and that’s what keeps me going.
What are you passionate about outside of work?
Outside of work, I’m passionate about building community, lifelong learning, and creating spaces where people feel seen, valued, and empowered. I also have a deep love for storytelling. I love reading, writing, and exploring different cultural narratives. I believe stories have the power to shift perspectives, inspire action, and bridge divides, which is why I’m always seeking out new books, documentaries, or creative projects that challenge my thinking.
Additionally, I’m passionate about personal development and wellness. I try to be intentional about reflection, whether through journaling, mindfulness practices, or simply making space for joy. With such a rigorous schedule, I’ve learned that prioritizing balance is essential to sustaining the work I do.
Who do you look up to?
I look up to my parents because they embody resilience, dedication, and unwavering support. Their journey has shaped my values, work ethic, and commitment to service. They’ve shown me what it means to persevere through challenges, lead with integrity, and always find ways to uplift others.
Watching them navigate life with strength and grace has been a constant source of inspiration. Their sacrifices and commitment to creating opportunities for me and others remind me why I do this work—because real change starts with people who care deeply and take action.
Every day, I carry their lessons with me, striving to honor their example by using my skills and experiences to create meaningful impact in the communities I serve.
