DESCRIPTION

In this training, participants will gain an understanding of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and learn how to maintain standards of ethical and effective use. This training is open to organizations that directly serve students and would like access to student-level data on the Memphis-Shelby County Schools students they serve. Staff who successfully complete this training will be authorized to access Seeding Success’ data dashboards. This training is, therefore, only provided to organizational staff who need to work directly with student-level data.

This training involves four (4) online modules of training and a half-day virtual workshop where participants will build upon and apply learnings from the online modules using a continuous improvement framework. As part of the Master Data Sharing Agreement with MSCS, participants are expected to demonstrate an understanding and synthesis of data literacy principles, and their application in role during the workshop, in order to be authorized to access the data dashboards.

Who should attend this training?

  • Staff of organizations that provide direct service to students

  • Staff of organizations that would benefit from access to student-level data* on the MSCS students they serve

  • Staff of organizations that are currently Seeding Success partners or in the process of becoming Seeding Success partners

* Please see our Data FAQ if you only need access to aggregate-level (summarized) student data.

Please email any inquiries to training@seeding-success.org

PRE-WORK

Previous participants took at least 2-3 hours to go over the materials of online modules, and complete the subsequent 4 quizzes. Therefore, we suggest that participants register early to have sufficient time to complete the quizzes before the virtual workshop. After participants register for the training, instructions for the online modules and quizzes will be sent at least 3 weeks before the training date.
