Chief Talent Development Officer, First Horizon

Dr. Mario Brown is a native Memphian, who, at an early age, caught an eye for social responsibility through the ministry at his church, St. Joseph’s in the Whitehaven community of Memphis. These early insights provided a foundation for a life of continuous learning. 


Brown earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering Technology and a Doctorate of Education with a concentration in Higher and Adult Education from The University of Memphis. He began his career as an educational professional at The University of Arkansas – Fayetteville and Little Rock, Fisk and Christian Brothers University and Rhodes College. 

In 2013, Brown switched careers to join First Horizon Bank and now serves as the Chief Talent Development Officer. Currently, he serves as a member of the National Alumni Board of Directors and Past-President of the Black Alumni Chapter. Brown has served as an International board member in the capacity of Coordinator of the Sigma Beta Clubs, International Standards and Awards Committee chair, Liaison for the March of Dimes and Liaison Chair for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. In recognition of service to his fraternity and community, he was honored with the highest recognition for his region, the Distinguished Service Chapter. He helped to start and serves as a Senior Facilitator for the Embark program at the New Memphis Institute. 

In 2017, Brown was selected as a speaker for TEDx where he shared his ideas on 

“The Possibility of People”. Today, he continues to lead from purpose in assisting with the development of talent throughout the organization. 

Brown is grounded with the assistance of many people, most importantly his wife, Bridget, and his three kids, Maya (11), Laila (8) and Zeke (6).
