Seeding Success leads and coordinates the More for Memphis initiative, a comprehensive, county-wide plan to improve the quality of life for all residents by ensuring all people, especially those in Black, brown, and low-income communities, have access to the essential services and resources they need to thrive. The More For Memphis plan, accessible at moreformemphis.org/the-plan, outlines over 30 research-supported strategies to help improve financial opportunities and quality of life for residents. The goals of More for Memphis are driven by collaboration across sectors, data-based decision making, and using public policy to ensure sustainability. 

Position Summary:

Seeding Success seeks an experienced and motivated Data Analyst to join our Data and Performance Management Team. This position supports the Seeding Success data sharing infrastructure with local school districts, continuous improvement efforts and the development of collaborative strategies. You will work with Seeding Success staff and partner organizations to help identify goals, measure progress, establish and refine systems for data management and evaluation, facilitate the use of data and research and communicate progress to internal and external audiences. We seek an independent, analytically-minded individual with strong SQL and PowerBI skills, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and a passion for improving educational outcomes through data.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Work closely with community organizations, school districts, and other partners to ensure consistent and reliable access to student data for monitoring student progress and supporting continuous improvement processes. 

  • Create and disseminate data visualizations and actionable reports from data inputs to audiences of varying levels. 

    • Perform SQL data queries, analyze complex data sets, and extract key information.

    • Use PowerBI to build, maintain and update dashboards that share data on outcomes and track progress.

    • Visualize and analyze complex data sets and identify trends and themes.

  • Help partners use outcomes data to set and track toward goals, link key outcomes and indicators to the existing data infrastructure. Support partners to answer questions about their data to drive decisions. 

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners on special data requests by guiding partners to ask relevant questions and prioritizing business requirements.  

  • Conduct special research and analysis projects as needed. 

  • Understand and effectively  apply data sharing guidance and protocols.

    • Implement practices to ensure data stewardship and security, including intake, storage, processing and sharing of data across internal and external systems.

  • Research and understand various types of student data and their associated metrics. 

  • Lead partner organization roster collection and integration into data warehouse.

  • Coach and train partners on data literacy and data use for continuous improvement.

  • Review, organize, manage, and audit partner training participation and access to data

  • Assist in establishing and maintaining secure connections and file or data transfers between data warehouse and school districts

  • Keep and maintain documentation about work processes and data products

Location:

Position requires proximity to Memphis, TN or willingness to relocate

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or related certifications/training in a related field such as statistics, computer science, business with an analytical focus, and/or equivalent education and experience 

  • At least two years experience as a data analyst or experience managing large scale data projects for the purpose of supporting research, analysis, and continuous improvement

  • Experience developing analysis and handling large data sets and experience developing materials which explain the analysis and are easy to understand

  • Experience writing SQL queries and building data visualizations

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to swiftly and accurately understand complex data and perform analysis using a variety of platforms such as Excel, Power BI/Power Query, Tableau, SPSS or SAS.

  • Draw insight from analysis output and support others on data uses/applications in a way that is responsive to different roles and user needs.

  • Facilitate action- and outcome-oriented collaboration sessions with a variety of stakeholder groups.

  • Tackle operational challenges in a complex, changing political and educational environment.

  • Team player orientation with the ability to collaborate with others on challenging, time-sensitive projects

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to create and deliver high-quality presentations to a variety of stakeholders

  • Well-organized and detail-oriented with ability to manage daily administrative tasks without losing sight of long-term goals and planning

  • Ability to learn quickly and independently about educational terminology and data resources 

  • Knowledge of data systems common to education settings (such as student information management systems, student assessments, etc)

  • Strong familiarity with data warehousing, data mining and data mapping 

  • Use sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information
