BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

60% of a student’s academic success is impacted by out-of-school factors. Addressing such factors is essential to closing the achievement gaps experienced by students in low-income communities.

Beyond the Classroom creates a coordinated system of student-centered support by strengthening the connection between school districts and providers that serve students during out-of-school time.

BTC partners share data and collaborate on strategies to ultimately improve outcomes for all K-12 students and their families.

Data Partners

Seeding Success maintains a data sharing agreement with Memphis Shelby County Schools so that our community partners can track student progress and improve outcomes. S2 data partners agree to standards of ethical use for student data and receive training from us on how to interpret data and leverage it along with continuous improvement concepts. Learn more about becoming a Data Partner by reading our Data FAQs, or email Taylor DeMagistris: taylordm@seeding-success.org.

Shelby County Community Schools Partnership

The Shelby County Community Schools Partnership (SCCSP) focuses on the high-needs communities of Frayser, Northaven, and Millington to implement and evaluate the full-service community schools model.

What is a community school?
The community school model is an evidence-based approach that positions neighborhood schools as a base for providing resources for students and families in the community.

The SCCSP is made possible by a 5-year, $15M federal grant and $15M local matching funds. The investment will support improved outcomes for roughly 3400 families and students annually across Frayser, North Memphis, and Millington.

The partnership expands full-service community schools infrastructure and services like early childhood care, needs assessment and coordination, expanded learning opportunities, mental & physical health, and college and career pathways across multiple local education agencies. Over this 5-year period, the Center for Research in Educational Policy (CREP) at the University of Memphis will conduct an impact evaluation of the SCCSP and determine best practices to be scaled across Shelby County.
