New Year’s FAFSA Push!

Help us reach our FAFSA goals!

Ensuring that all Shelby County students graduate high school college and career ready is one of the four main goals of PeopleFirst and Seeding Success. With that in mind, we kick off the New Year with a focus on FAFSA completion.

FAFSA, the free application for federal student aid, is the largest provider of student financial aid in the nation and determines all federal grant and loan awards.

Memphis Talent Dividend, along with more than 100 community partners, has worked to create FAFSA Memphis, a city and county wide FAFSA awareness campaign first launched in November of 2015.

Last year, through the hard work of our high school counselors and the partners of FAFSA Memphis, the community increased FAFSA completion from 60% to 88%, and this year looks to build on that success. TN alone accounted for more than 40% of the increase in FAFSA completion across the country, much of that attributable to the work in Shelby County.

It is important for students to fill out the FAFSA as quickly as possible, as financial aid is limited. Our students are also eligible for free 2 year and Technology Center tuition, if they enrolled in the Tennessee Promise Scholarship program. However, in order to remain eligible for the Tennessee Promise Scholarship, students must submit the FAFSA by February 15, 2016. There are currently more than 7,000 seniors county-wide enrolled in the TN Promise program. Let’s make sure all of them stay eligible by completing the FAFSA.

Thank you for your hard work as we look to sustain last year’s overwhelming results.
