Dr. Isaac A. Rodriguez

Dr. Isaac Rodriguez is the Co-Founder & CEO of SweetBio, Inc., a Memphis-based biotech start-up that leverages Manuka honey as an ingredient in a dissolvable membrane for dental surgeries.
Dr. Rodriguez earned a B.S. from the University of Virginia (2007), M.S. from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU, 2010), and Ph.D. from VCU (2013) all in Biomedical Engineering. While at VCU, he was awarded the Presidential Award for Community and Multicultural Engagement, the highest honor for University Service.
After graduating with his doctorates, he moved to Memphis where he spent 2.5 years as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Memphis. While at the U of M, Dr. Rodriguez co-invented the honey membrane technology that has now become the basis for SweetBio’s product lines.
Outside of his professional career, Dr. Rodriguez is intimately involved with the community. He serves on the Board for the Virginia Latino Higher Education Network where he has been crucial to the implementation of their flagship program, The Hispanic College Institute (HCI) – a week long college prep program hosted at Virginia Tech for minority students.
Currently, Dr. Rodriguez serves on the Board of Trustees for New Memphis Institute, Mayor Luttrell’s Young Professional Council, CAMINIOS Program Advisory Council through Latino Memphis, a member of Sound Check – Memphis Chamber of Commerce Young Professional’s group, a Gates Millennium Scholar mentor, and soon will be joining Beale Street Merchants Association’s Millennial Council.
